How much do lawyers charge to draw up a Will?

By Paige Webbstock, Staff Writer.

For some reason, many lawyers like to charge flat fees for Will writing services.

You can expect to be charged around $300 at the low end of the scale, and this would most likely be for a straightforward Will with few complications.

An average charge would be around the $1,000 mark, but you can expect some lawyers to charge around $1,500.

Some lawyers will bill you by the hour and this hourly rate will depend on the lawyer’s training, experience and also on where you live. If you’re based in a small town, you might find a rate at around $150 per hour, however, in the city you will find it to be $200 per hour on average.

Large firms tend to charge a higher fee than sole practitioners or smaller law firms so look for something which is within your budget. Note that someone who specializes in and practices estate planning alone is likely to charge more than a general lawyer, but should also be more knowledgeable and efficient.
